We ordered lunch today from SBCD Korean Tofu House. We are adapting well to the lifestyle change since Circuit Breaker* was imposed 12 days ago - cooking at home and occasionally ordering home delivery. *Circuit Breaker are social distancing measures implemented by the Singapore government to stem the spread of COVID-19 infections. From 7 Apr till 4 May 2020, restaurants can only provide takeaway or delivery service. No dining in is allowed.
Lunch for three people, comes neatly and safely packed in boxes. BCD stands for Bukchang-dong, a trendy foodie alley and watering hole in Seoul. There's also Buk Chang Dong, the global franchise which is like the McDonalds of soondubu. I had it a few times at their outlet in Toronto's Koreatown and it is one of my favourites. SBCD is Singapore Buk Chang Dong lah 😄 (SBCD is not a franchise but inspired by BCD, the food street.)
We had bulgogi, spicy chicken, cockles bibimbap, and seafood soontofu.
The bulgogi comes with rice, stir fried marinated beef slices, a fried dumpling, stir fried kimchi, and the signature spicy soontofu soup.
The tissue thin beef slices were tender, slightly chewy, and tasted sweet with subtle beefiness and savouriness. It went well with the slightly sweet boiled white rice.
Fried dumpling filled with glass noodles, chive and minced pork. The skin still had some residual crispness despite coming wrapped in a box.
Spicy chicken set.
The chicken meat was tender and enveloped with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. We enjoyed it.
The seafood soontofu is an excellent complement - it completes both the bulgogi and spicy chicken set, and makes them taste better.
The crunchy prawn tasted fresh and had a bit of natural sweetness.
The good size cockles were thoroughly cooked, quite chewy and enveloped with robust salty savoury flavours balanced with a mild spiciness. Appetising and goes well with plain white rice.
