The cool rustic chic ambiance at The Coastal Settlement is WOWing and I enjoyed the wagyu cheeseburger I had today. Will be back to soak in the atmosphere and try more dishes as well as the coffee.
Restaurant name: The Coastal SettlementAddress: 200 Netheravon Road, Singapore 508529 (near Changi Village) Tel: +65 6475 0200Hours: 10:30am - 10:30pm (Sat & Sun open 8:30am)
Let's take a walk around The Coastal Settlement - it is the ambiance that impresses me most about this bar / cafe / restaurant. Opened in late 2011, it is about the same age as this blog - nearly 10 years old 🎂The decor feels like a Straits Chinese home of 1950s vintage. This little building used to be the Royal Air Force Changi base telephone exchange operated by the 19th Air Formation Signals Regiment.
The restaurant is chock a block with nostalgic paraphernalia, even a few cool Italian scooters. The collection is eclectic, the only unifying theme is "old". There are old telephones, typewriters, clocks, radios, a grand piano and even a fire bucket.
I like this cosy nook with heavy luxurious padded leather chairs. There are a few such intimate nooks with different decor.
The al fresco section is like dining in a tropical garden.
The garden looks out to a small green field.
We were here for a quick pit stop, so I ordered just a wagyu cheeseburger. At $18++, I was expecting some fries at the side but there were none.
I made the right choice. I asked for my wagyu beef patty to be done medium rare. The pinkish patty was tender, moist, slightly squeaky to the bite, and tasted clean, sweet and beefy. Lovely. The two types of cheese added savouriness to the sweetish beef. The light, soft pillowy sesame bun was also sweet.
Both makan buddies opted for the Halibut Fish & Chips (price $26++). Both felt it was just ok - as they were not the foodie type, I didn't probe further.
I will be back because I like the atmosphere here and the nice wagyu cheeseburger tells me that they probably have other nice food worth trying.
If you have been to The Coastal Settlement before, please share some tips on what to order 😄 The Coastal Settlement is not easy to spot from the road as the single storey building is mainly hidden by leafy shrubs. So, a navigation app would be very helpful here.If you drive, there are car parks just left and right of the restaurant. If you take a bus, service #29 stops right next to The Coastal Settlement.
